Sand Lake, Oregon
A tiny, new tree begins its life in the challenging ecosystem of a sand dune near the Oregon coast. Only the hardiest of plants can tolerate this extreme environment. The foredune supplies nutrient-poor soil amidst high winds, fierce storms and the vegetation that thrives there must tolerate alternating periods of drought, sand burial and soil/sand erosion.
