Covert Operation

Bobcat

Moments after the sun crests over Montana’s Mountains, this bobcat is already on the hunt.  The cold morning air doesn’t concern her.  She is an exceptionally adaptable animal.  From Mexico to Canada this abundant, but elusive, predator has adapted to a wide range of climates, and unlike the Lynx, bobcats hunt a variety of food.  They’re even known to take surprisingly large prey, including deer.

Smaller than a Lynx but twice the size of a domestic cat, her spotted and barred coat provides camouflage for stalking and ambushing her prey in the dry grass.

Not nocturnal, but crepuscular – the bobcat is most active during the 3 hours before and after sunrise and sunset.  This morning, she hunts intensely for several more minutes before disappearing from sight.
