Portland Japanese Garden, Portland, Oregon
The Portland Japanese Garden is blanketed in a cool morning fog in late October. The dark trunks and branches of this maple tree remind me of an old, stained glass window.
While this image is very peaceful, there are purposeful opposites going on here, to add strength, interest and balance. The warm, red and orange colors of the tree are set off nicely by the cool blue colors of the background. And the soft focus on the background (thanks to morning fog and a shallow depth of field) is contrasted nicely with the sharp focus of the tree in the foreground. These juxtapositions add contrast, interest and a sense of balance that is an important and integral part of the Japanese Garden.

Riding in the rain by the Portland rose gardens got me thinking: if you haven’t read Geek Love, you really should.
We need a lot more isngihts like this!
Really excellent visual appeal on this internet site, I’d value it 10.
